The St. Louis Cardinals would affiliate themselves with the Lynchburg team as soon as they switched leagues. Unlike most PDC's in that day which only lasted a year or two, the Cardinals signed on long term. In fact, they remained with the team until the Piedmont League's final demise in 1955. With St. Louis' backing, the Lynchburg Cardinals immediately set a precident as the team to beat by winning the Piedmont League Championship in their second year in the new league.
