Lynn has a tremendous amount of baseball history, hosting professional baseball all the way back in 1877 when the New England League featured the Lynn Live Oaks and the Lynn Lions. Baseball would continue to be played here until 1916. Then after a decade of absence, a brand new ballpark would be built for Lynn baseball dubbed "GE Athletic Field". This new ballpark was thrust quite literally into the spotlight when they hosted the first ever "night game" in baseball history (though several ballparks/cities actually claim this). The "Lynn Papooses" would call GE Athletic Field home from 1926 until 1930 as part of the returning Class B New England League. The Depression put an end to baseball here for quite awhile and the old wooden ballpark wasn't up to standards when it returned. That's when the concrete and steel made Fraser Field came to be.
