Can-Am League (Formerly Northeast League / Northern League East - Independent) |
The NorthEast League began play in 1995. They had 6 teams in competition, across
greater New England, eventually growing to 8 by 1997. In 1999, Miles Wolfe, commissioner
of the the famed Northern League, formed a merger with the North East
League. The NEL became known as the Northern League East Division, utilizing
the best of the ballparks of the earlier league. The Northern League served
well as they were already a "household name", to boost attendance. In 2003, the
merger ended. The NorthEast League came back as a seperate entity, then was
renamed the Can-Am League |
