Port Charlotte Stadium was not nearly as intricate of a stadium as Baseball City. PCS was more of a utilitarian ballpark that was built during the 1980s at a time when Spring Training Baseball Stadiums were far less elaborate. The ballpark faced some damage from Hurricane Charlie, which also destroyed the long time Fort Myers Stadium known as Terry Park. With both of these ballparks going through some rough patches, the time was right for Surprise to try and entice the Royals and Rangers with an exciting new ballpark, and succeeded in getting not just one but both to leave their respective homes and come to this lovely new stadium.
