With the Scottsdale Stadium I now vacant for the 1966 season it seemed like the Chicago Cubs (who were moving out of the 1920's Rendezvous Park in Mesa) would find Scottsdale Stadium I perfect for their liking. The Cubs made a rather strange move however. They didn't take up the residency of Scottsdale Stadium I and instead.... went for Blair Field in Long Beach California, leaving Scottsdale without a team in 1966. After going dark for an entire
season, the Cubs had a change of heart and after one season at Blair Field, came back to Arizona and finally took up residence at the still vacant Scottsdale Stadium I.
