At 22 years of age, a very young Ryne Sandberg came to camp at Mesa Arizona for the first time since the big trade. Sandberg had played good enough baseball to earn him a quick promotion from the Minor Leagues… and good enough to entice the Cubs to trade Ivan DeJesus for him and Larry Bowa. HoHoKam Park saw the start of their new Double Play combination.  While it would be a few years before Ryne matured into a Major League superstar, simply having a solid new middle-infield was enough to get the Cubs back within a few games of .500.
