In 1949, the city of Selma had just completed building a huge new multi-purpose stadium for the Selma Cloverleafs who had been playing in the Class B Southeastern League... a league which you were sent to, only if you had a good chance of making the Major Leagues. Just as the Cloverleafs got comfortable in the big new stadium, the Southeastern League ceased operations. The Cloverleafs were a team with a brand new stadium, without a league to play in.
