After nearly 50 years being known as the York White Roses... the franchise finally changed its name to the York Pirates in 1968 which was bad luck indeed. The team existed for only two seasons further and by 1969, they were gone from professional baseball for good. After serving 54 years as a Double-A Eastern League team, A Class B Piedmont League team, a Class B Interstate League team and back to the Eastern League again, York was suddenly without a ballclub. Though they sported a history of over half a century… it looked as if it may never return again.
