To understand what it took to get this ballpark underway, we have to go back 23 years before this stadium debuted to when the Cleveland Indians were looking to build a ballpark for their Single-A Kinston Indians franchise. Kinston was ready to uproot to a new territory and the Indians felt that this "un-chartered" area of Southern Maryland would be a perfect landing spot. Plans were made, contracts signed, land was purchased and cleared of all trees and shrubs and building began in Charles County Maryland for a brand new Carolina League Advanced Single-A ballpark.
