Sun City Stadium was built in 1971 to replace the Sun City Ballpark which was home to the Sun City Saints... a women's professional softball team. The Saints were tremendously popular and drew huge crowds. Del Webb who had built the ballpark, had hoped that a Major League sized stadium would not only increase the Saints' popularity, but perhaps draw a Major League team to its confines.
