The Arizona-Texas League had dropped out of the circuit for 6 seasons, during WWII. Bisbee had always been one of the league's most consistant franchises throughout the AZL's existance. When the league returned in 1947, there were some new changes to the league, especially in Bisbee. Bisbee had decided to move a large percentage of its home games to Douglas' long vacant Copper Kings Stadium. The new Bisbee Yanks, had also just landed the New York Yankees Class C affiliation, bringing both ballparks into the spotlight.
