This is where the Withers Field outfield was located. Minor League teams have played here since 1948, but they reached their peak in the early 60's. That was when Tony Oliva joined the Wytheville Twins and hit .410 for the season! The following year Joy Gritts set an all time record for homeruns in the Appy League with 24. (Remember, this is a short season league. 12 homeruns for a season, is considered quite a feat). That record was tied in 2004, when Mitch Einertson of the Martinsville Astros, also hit 2 dozen for the Rookie League.
