The operators of the Buffalo club received a body blow on May 28 when they learned they had lost their bid for a major league expansion franchise. The future of the International League club was now bleak, indeed. It had been obvious for some time that the only reason the owners had continued to pour in money was to retain control of the territory for a possible major league franchise. President Jack Guthrie attempted to reassure Buffalo fans by saying, "We are in the International League to stay until we reach the majors." Major league hopes now rested on the possibility of acquiring an established team that would become the main tenant in the domed stadium being planned for the Town of Lancaster. As it turned out, the domed stadium never got off the drawing boards. With that failure, any hope of imminent major league baseball went aglimmer" *Buffalo Bisons.
