While the loss of the White Sox was a painful one, it would be quickly healed by an old friend... fellow Chicago franchise, the Cubs who had been with Des Moines in the Western League from 1947-1958. The Cubs signed a very long term contract and still play their Triple-A team in Des Moines today. The new alliance brought such talent as: Pat Tabler (.342, 32 2B, 17 HR), Mel Hall (.325, 32 2B, 35 HR, 125 RBI), Shawon Dunston (.268), Joe Carter (.310, 14 HR), Jamie Moyer (3-2, 2.55), Damon Berryhill (.287, 18 HR), Joe Girardi (.245) and Mark Grace (.254).
