Even still... with its rather odd setup and strange quirks, Oklahoma City was thrilled to have baseball back in the summer after 5 long years without a team. It was also a step up, as the new Oklahoma City 89ers, joined the Triple-A American Association. The reason for the sudden need for a new Triple-A team, had to do with a new Major League franchise known as the Houston Colt 45's (eventually known as the Houston Astros). The Colt 45's had joined the Mets as the two newest teams in the Major Leagues. The Houston Buffs, which had been playing at Buffaloes Stadium until 1961 were now defunct due to the incoming franchise. The Buffs would move their operations to Oklahoma City and the OKC 89ers were now the Colt 45's new Triple-A affiliate.
