Sparta wasn't nearly as good in 1949, despite having a player by the name of James Stoyle playing for the Spartans. James Stoyle led the league with 191 hits, which landed him a season ending average of exactly .400... a feat that Edgar Hartness would reach again in 1950 with the Eastman Dodgers. Hartness and Stoyle would go on to be the only players to ever hit .400 for the Georgia State League, each hitting exactly that number on the final day of the season. The Saints meanwhile finished in 5th place in the now 8 team league (Tifton and Dublin had joined at the beginning of the season), 69-68 (.504), 17 games out of 1st.
