Sparta was one of 6 teams that was part of the new start up Georgia State League... making its first appearance since the last GSL folded in 1921 (and really had no relation to that one). The new league featured teams in Fitzgerald, Baxley, Eastman, Vidalia-Lyons and Douglas. The Sparta Saints were led by Manager-Player Woodrow Bottoms, who excelled at both. Woodrow Bottoms led by example, hitting an awesome .375 leading the GFL. Alan Swygert led the league in RBI with 88, while the pitching was taken care of by Paul Brock who won a league leading 21 games and also led in strike outs with 270.
