Needless to say the gamble didn't work out. In fact it backfired. The Saints only played for only 3 more years and then had to give up the franchise because when the Twins moved in, the Saints were playing in their large Major League jurisdiction. The Saints also couldn't compete at the box office with the novelty of a new MLB franchise. Midway Stadium was later demolished in the early 1980s. Midway Stadium would be rebuilt in 1993 (with the same utilitarian look for some reason), for independent baseball and now happily serves the St. Paul Saints once again
